Upgrading the spreading out of enemies in Val's revenge

Hi everyone,
at the start of the game the monsters run up and away from Val, regardless of where she moves. They move in the same direction every time the game starts which makes the game quite predictable. That is until val grabs a key and then they follow her. I will look into solving this issue on my own and using forums. I just thought I’d let the forum know what’s happening in my particular end projects which I have downloaded from the course code. I aim to make the enemies spread out in random directions before a key is collected rather than following the same upward trend which they do currently when the game begins
