Intel unveils a 256-core Diamond Rapids Xeon
Intel’s Diamond Rapids Xeon is shaping up to be a major next-generation server CPU, with the flagship configuration expected to reach 256 cores and 256 threads. The platform is built around Intel’s 18A process technology and is expected to use a new Xeon 7 architecture, targeting significantly higher compute density for AI, cloud, and high-performance data-center workloads.
The move to 256 cores highlights the industry’s shift toward highly parallel CPU workloads, while Diamond Rapids is also expected to bring improvements in memory bandwidth, I/O, and overall efficiency.
