Rob Pike (co-creator of Go) on GenAI

Fuck you people. Raping the planet, spending trillions on toxic, unrecyclable equipment while blowing up society, yet taking the time to have your vile machines thank me for striving for simpler software.

Just fuck you. Fuck you all.

I can’t remember the last time I was this angry.

I agree with Rob Pike. In the next few years, AI is likely to make life significantly worse.

I think more and more people are beginning to feel like Rob. When people created, or supported works of an open-source nature they did so with our understanding of what open source was at the time.

Pretty much nobody would willingly contribute to the creation of something that could, very potentially, replace them - and not just in the work place, but in life itself. In other words, contribute to something which could spell the end of human-kind:

(ignore the thumbnail, it’s kinda dumb, but the interview is good)

Even if on one level people like Rob are relatively protected, people he knows may well not be, so I can completely understand his viewpoint and those that share it from so many different levels, whether it’s the impact on them, people they care about, the planet, society, or humanity…

As always, technology has its good and bad effects on society.
